06Cr18Ni13Si4 — specialty Steel: Composition, Properties & Applications

Aug 23, 2026 0 views 0 comments
Also known as: 06Cr18Ni13Si4 / S38148 (0Cr18Ni13Si4)
06Cr18Ni13Si4 grade supplied by Shanxi Youte Steel (jlhsteel.net).

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION
C:≤0.08;Si:3-5;Mn:≤2;P:≤0.045;S:≤0.03;Cr:15-20;Ni:11.5-15

TYPICAL APPLICATIONS
Austenitic stainless steel with excellent corrosion resistance, formability and weldability; non-magnetic in annealed condition. High nickel (≈13.25%) stabilises the austenite and improves toughness and pitting resistance. Used in food processing, chemical plant, architecture, heat exchangers, kitchenware and medical devices.

AVAILABLE FORMS
Bar, Plate, Tube, Forging

HEAT TREATMENT
Solution anneal 1010–1150 °C followed by rapid water quench to retain austenite; not hardenable by heat treatment. Sensitization avoided by low carbon or stabilizers (Ti/Nb).

PROCESSING PRECAUTIONS
Weld with low-carbon or stabilized filler (e.g., 316L, 347) to avoid sensitization; passivate after fabrication. Not hardenable, but work-hardens rapidly — use sharp tools and rigid setups. Avoid chloride contact for 304 in warm service; specify 316/317 for marine or aggressive media.
