Uses
Cobalt alloy with exceptional wear, galling and high-temperature corrosion resistance. Used in cutting tools, valve seats, dental and orthopaedic implants, gas-turbine parts.
Heat Treatment
Solution treated and aged (≈650–800 °C) for wear alloys; many Stellite-type grades are used as-cast or hardfaced.
Precautions
Very abrasive to tooling when hardfaced; machine in annealed condition where possible. Excellent galling resistance reduces need for lubrication.
