Uses

Ferritic stainless steel with good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking and oxidation, plus formability and lower cost. Used for automotive trim, exhaust systems, domestic appliances, decorative and welded structures.

Heat Treatment

Annealed at 780–850 °C and air cooled; stabilize at 600–800 °C to avoid 475 °C embrittlement; not hardenable by heat treatment.

Precautions

Avoid welding in the 475 °C embrittlement and sigma-phase ranges; use matched filler and minimize heat input. Good resistance to stress-corrosion cracking.
