Uses

Aluminium alloy with good strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance and recyclability. Silicon (≈0.2%) improves castability and lowers thermal expansion. Copper (≈6%) raises strength and hardness via precipitation hardening. Used in transport, aerospace, packaging, building and electrical applications.

Heat Treatment

Heat-treatable variants solution treated 470–540 °C and aged (T4/T6); non-heat-treatable grades are strain-hardened. Anneal 340–415 °C.

Precautions

Use sharp, high-rake tooling and appropriate coolants; galling/adhesive wear can occur. Titanium reacts with hydrogen and chlorine — keep out of pickling/HCl environments.
