Uses

High-carbon chromium bearing steel for rolling-element bearings, races and precision balls/rollers. Combines high hardness, fatigue life and dimensional stability; also used for gauges, needles and wear parts.

Heat Treatment

Spheroidize anneal (760–780 °C), austenitize 830–860 °C oil quench, temper 150–180 °C to 60–66 HRC; stabilising treatments improve dimensional stability.

Precautions

Preheat and control interpass temperature when welding; post-weld heat treatment or stress relief is recommended to avoid hard-zone cracking. Use low-hydrogen electrodes. Protect from decarburization during heating (controlled atmosphere or protective coating).
