Uses
Copper-base alloy with high electrical/thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and antimicrobial properties. Zinc forms the brass family; higher zinc raises strength and machinability. Used for electrical connectors, busbars, heat exchangers, marine hardware, coins and decorative parts.
Heat Treatment
Solution treat (for age-hardening brasses/bronzes) ≈700–900 °C and age; many copper alloys are supplied work-hardened; anneal 300–650 °C.
Precautions
Work-hardens readily; anneal between heavy forming passes. Some leaded grades are less machinable but free-cutting; avoid in potable-water lead restrictions.
