Applications
Manufacturer proprietary steel grade (trade name) per maker specification.
Available Forms
Bar, plate, sheet, tube, forgings, strip, wire, powder
Uses
Duplex stainless steel with a mixed austenite/ferrite structure giving roughly twice the yield strength of austenitic grades plus excellent chloride resistance. Used in desalination, offshore, pulp & paper, heat exchangers and chemical tankage.
Heat Treatment
Solution anneal 1020–1100 °C and rapid quench; reheating near 300–400 °C (sigma phase) and 475 °C embrittlement zones must be avoided.
Precautions
Heat input and interpass must be controlled to keep the ferrite/austenite balance; avoid exposure 300–400 °C (sigma) and use low carbon. Sensitive to chloride SCC above ≈60 °C.
