Uses
Titanium alloy with outstanding strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance, especially in chloride environments. Used in aerospace airframes, jet engines, medical implants, marine and chemical plant.
Heat Treatment
Solution treated 900–980 °C and aged 480–600 °C (α+β grades); anneal 700–800 °C; β-annealed for creep resistance. Keep below β-transus to avoid grain growth.
Precautions
Use sharp, high-rake tooling and appropriate coolants; galling/adhesive wear can occur. Titanium reacts with hydrogen and chlorine — keep out of pickling/HCl environments.
