Uses
Magnesium alloy — the lightest structural metal — for weight-saving castings and extrusions. Used in automotive, aerospace, electronics and portable equipment housings.
Heat Treatment
Solution treat 410–520 °C and age; T4/T6 tempers; anneal 340–420 °C. Avoid overheating above the liquidus.
Precautions
Use sharp, high-rake tooling and appropriate coolants; galling/adhesive wear can occur. Titanium reacts with hydrogen and chlorine — keep out of pickling/HCl environments. Flammability hazard when molten or as fine chips/dust — use flood coolant and avoid ignition sources.
